WELBRO Continues Success in Small/Specialty Projects

1/25/2011 - Florida

2010 was an active year for WELBRO Small/Specialty Project Teams.

In July we completed two (2) interesting endeavors with Rosen Hotels & Resorts and SeaWorld.

Comfort Inn Splash Pad

This project consisted of enlarging the Comfort Inn pool deck and adding numerous upgrade water features to enhance the guest experience for this Rosen Property.  After stripping and grading, an S-shaped pinless, stacked retaining wall was installed to provide additional deck space for the feature.

Working in conjunction with Weller Pools, we reworked the pool equipment area, added new features and upgraded existing equipment.

The end result was a 5,500 sf interactive water feature, completed on schedule, which opened on July 1st, just in time for the July 4th week visitors.

SeaWorld First Floor Office Build-out

In the same time period as the Comfort Inn Splash Pad, we were working a 22,000 sf interior build-out for SeaWorld’s offices.

This was an interesting challenge due to the fact that the space had been partially renovated by another tenant, who left substantial new construction materials behind when they abandoned their effort.

In an effort to show their commitment to “green”, SeaWorld required us to utilize the maximum amount of this material and incorporate it into the completely new design for their offices.  Not only did this avoid good materials being relegated to a landfill, it relieved the project cost by an effective amount.

After removal and storage of existing materials, we proceeded with extensive slab removal to install plumbing and a substantial number of floor boxes to provide electrical data and audio visual cabling for offices, conference rooms and systems furniture.

During this 10-week project, we constructed and fit-out the lobby, four conference rooms, three break areas and numerous offices and systems furniture areas.

HuntonBrady Architects utilized Eldorado Faux stacked stone, ModularArts Panels, and artful millwork to provide a work area that duplicated SeaWorld’s 4th Floor offices in the same building.

This project was completed on time and allowed the occupancy by the client beginning the 1st week of August.

Due to our success in meeting our commitments, we have been invited back two times to provide additional services for this client.

Rosen Pedestrian Bridge

On December 30th WELBRO erected two 160’ foot bridge sections to connect the Rosen Center with the Orange County Convention Center.

This project, which began in September and will complete in mid-February, is a collaboration by Rosen Hotels & Resorts and Orange County to enhance the convention experience for visitors to Orlando.

Working with HHCP, Mitzo Engineering and KLG allowed us to fast-track the design and streamline the submittal process in order to expedite fabrication and delivery of the bridge structure.

This is the third such bridge which provides convention attendees access to the Orange County Convention Center above grade and away from I-Drive traffic; and WELBRO has either constructed or participated in the construction of all three.

By partnering with Rosen Hotels & Resorts to provide this connectivity, Orange County greatly increases the marketability of the Convention Center, which in turn boosts the economy of Central Florida.

Our thanks go out to Harris Rosen and Daniel Guiterrez for their display of loyalty in selecting WELBRO for their smaller projects.

We look forward to participating in future connections to the Convention Center as we move toward becoming the #1 convention destination in the Country.
