Twenty one students from Poinciana High School participated in WELBRO Building Corporation's biannual Junior Achievement Job Shadow Program on November 18 2008.
The half-day event, held at WELBRO's Maitland Corporate Office, included a group presentation from the company's executive team on the importance of education and the value of free enterprise, both of which are staple messages of Junior Achievement programs. Following the presentation, the students split into smaller groups for one-on-one sessions with WELBRO employees in various departments, including accounting, preconstruction, operations, marketing, purchasing and human resources.
"WELBRO Building Corporation recognizes what a great opportunity it is to mentor high school students through the Junior Achievement Job Shadow Program," says Patricia Werner, Vice President of Community and Economic Development for WELBRO. "These students are our future workforce and the more we expose them to the marketplace, the better prepared they will be for the future."
Junior Achievement is pleased to partner with companies like WELBRO throughout the year to provide Central Florida students with real-world exposure. "We introduce students to careers through one-day, on-site orientations or through more extensive internships. Either way, it's an authentic world of work experience for the students, enhanced with classroom preparatory and follow-up activities" says Deborah Morris, Junior Achievement representative for Central Florida.
